What is LoRaWAN for Smart Buildings?
The ideal solution for new and retrofit projects
LoRaWAN is a long-range, low-power wireless communication technology designed to connect sensors and devices across large areas with minimal energy consumption. It enables thousands of IoT devices to securely send small amounts of data over kilometres in outdoor areas, and hundreds of meters inside – making it ideal for smart buildings, energy monitoring, environmental sensing, and industrial applications.
From gateways and sensors to training and integration – we help organisations deploy LoRaWAN networks from concept to operation
LoRaWAN Technology Features & Benefits
What makes LoRaWAN different to other wireless technologies?
We’ve been working with LoRaWAN for many years, and we know first-hand that for system integrators and building operators, LoRaWAN solves some of the biggest challenges in deploying scalable, low-maintenance IoT networks.

Long Range, Wide Area
Devices can communicate up to 15km depending on environment

Ultra-Low Power Use
Battery-powered sensors can run for 5-10 years

Massive Device Capacity
A single gateway can support thousands of devices

Secure by Design
End-to-end encryption ensures your data integrity

Open Device Ecosystem
Supported by hundreds of manufacturers worldwide, the best available at One Sight
How LoRaWAN Works (Architecture)
A typical LoRaWAN network involves 4 components
1. Sensors & Devices
These are the end-points that collect the data on various applications, such as Temp, IAQ, Occupancy, Energy Metering and Leak Detection
2. LoRaWAN Gateway
LoRaWAN gateways receive messages from all the sensors, and forward them to the network server which is often onboard the gateway
3. Network Server
The network server (often onboard the gateway) manages devices, security and message routing
4. Applications / Platforms
This is where you make use of the data collected, whether it’s visualised and integrated into systems such as BMS, Niagara 4, Energy & FM platforms or Cloud dashboards

LoRaWAN Ideal for Retrofit Projects
Solving real challenges of IoT deployment
For system integrators and building operators, LoRaWAN simplifies the rollout of connected devices – reducing install time, lowering maintenance, and enabling scalable smart building solutions.
Unlike traditional wired BMS sensors, LoRaWAN devices can be deployed in minutes without running cables. This makes it ideal for retrofitting sensors in existing buildings, campuses and infrastructure where running new wiring would be costly or disruptive.
At One Sight, not only do we have a huge range of LoRaWAN hardware, we have also developed our own software drivers to ensure we can help you move data virtually anywhere
